Subtraction using the written method

WALT to work out very long problems using the written method. Today we had to work out problems using the written method, also known as column maths. It was easy as I have known this strategy since I was 5. This is how you do it. So you put the highest number at the top ( in this case 26 054) and the low number at the bottom (in this case 14578). Then you subtract. Now 4-8 isn't possible unless you wanted to go below 0. So you have to cross out the four, borrow one from the next column and turn the four into fourteen. Then do 14-8 which equals 6. Now, because you have borrowed on from the next column the number in the column you borrowed from is one less. So now it is 4-7 which again doesn't fit. So repeat the strategy about borrowing the numbers. Then subtract the next one, borrow the one and repeat. Then you have the answer. Did you find this helpful?

The wonderful written method

WALT to work out very long problems using the written method. Today we had to work out problems using the written method, also known as column maths. It was easy as I have known this strategy since I was 5. This is how you do it. So you put the highest number at the top ( in this case 97437) and the low number at the bottom. Then you add. 7+6=13. That is bigger than 10 so you need to put the 3 underneath the 7 and the 6 and put the one above. Then add the next numbers and plus one. Then plus the next one, carry the one and keep doing it. Then you have the answer. Do you find this easy?

John 15:1 “I am the true vine, and my Father is the gardener

WALT to choose a verse and make a drawing about it. Today we had to make a Google drawing about the verse of John 15:1. It was hard to make the vines because they had to be a certain shape, also I was kind of lazy with the background and got it from a site called Unsplash which has photos that are completely free. What does this verse mean to you?

The Names of Gods

W.A.L.T. Name an image of God from the Bible and explain what it tells people about God: OLD TESTAMENT. Today we had to name some of the names of God and describe what he is described in the different passages they set for us. God has many names because he is so powerful. It was hard because we had to research what the Jews called God it kept coming up with Hebrew. I eventually found one site that helped a bit. How many names do you think he has?

Number story!

WALT make a number story. Sally had 642 lollies for her party. At the end she had 358 lollies left. How many lollies did she eat? This is how you work it out. So you have 642 and 358. Round 358 to the nearest 10, which is 360. To get to that we had to plus 2 so add two to 642 which is 644. So 644-360 = 284. I guess it kind of helps but also takes probably the same amount of time it would take with the original problem. Do you think this strategy helps?
