Speedy the reindeer.

In writing we create a reindeer and convince Santa to let his/her be one of his reindeer. This is my story. Do you think Speedy should be on the team.
My Reindeer

My name is Speedy. I am the sister of Blitzen and my nephew is Rudolph. I am faster than Blitzen and best friends with Snower who always clears the snow (BTW she’s  my cousin).
I’m tan and white with hints of light grey. My mum is a tan doe and my dad is Donner. My cousins are Snower and Prancer and Dancer and Dasher.
I wasn't allowed to be in Santa's sleigh because I was too young (but Rudolph was younger and he got in!) But Blitzen and Dasher have retired so now there are 2 spaces available!
I can run faster than Usain Bolt and leap higher than Burji Khalifa. I can fly as well. I think I should be on Santa's sleigh because 1. I can run fast so he would never be late. 2. I can jump over boulders so he won't hit anything while flying. 3. I would call for help if Santa was in trouble as I can fly. I hope I can join Santa's team with my cousin, Snower.

What went well is that it turned out looking good. Next time I think I should make a clearer background. What do you know about the 10 commandments?

It was challenging sometimes because our group ran away and didn't help us (me and Paige). It went well because after some mucking around we finally worked together. Next time I think we could stay together. This is ours. Have you made a marble run before?

Super Sand Dunes!

We are learning to care for our earth. Today we went down to the beach to learn about sand dunes. Sand dunes are very important because they help protect us from they wind. Sand dunes also protect us from storms. When people walk over the sand dunes it destroys them. The lady who told us this was called Cecilia. She worked with the city council. We made our own mini sand dune, complete with walkways and fences. It had to be knee high and arms length. Sand dunes are formed when the tide push's the sand into a pile. There are different types of grass and animals on the dunes. The grass are called Marrum and golden grass. Some animals that live in the sand dunes are the sand hoppers and the rare katipo spider. Do you care for the earth? Image result for sand dune at a beach

The church

This term we have been learning about the church. The church is all about people gathering and worshipping in the name of God. We did a video about. We were learning about Penance and Reconciliation. Penance is the sacrament of forgiveness and reconciliation is where you make right with the person you have done wrong to. They could be God or maybe your friend. In the church there are three rites. Rite 1 and 2 are where you go to the priest and get forgiven. Rite 3 is only used in an complete emergency. This is where the priest doesn't have enough time to bless one person so he bless' everyone. What do you know about the church?

Amazing narrative writing

W.A.L.T to write a narrative.

We have been writing a narrative in class. My one is called the witch's ball. In a narrative you need a title,a setting, an introduction,a problem, a solution and a conclusion.  We had to do all of that but we had to also add a picture and we had to make it on Google Drawing and not get it off the Internet. How many narratives have you done?

The Witch’s Ball
Opening                                                                      Problem                                                       Solution

“I can do this, I can do this” I chanted over and over again as I held up the glowing purple witch’s ball. It was amazing because I was about to become a full witch. The wizard said some funny words that sounded like abracadabrataflabra to me. Suddenly there was a blinding light and the pink arena where I was becoming a witch disappeared around me.

I woke up in a cold sweat. I looked around. I was in a creepy old house. As I walked around the house, it became more and more familiar. With a sudden jolt, I realised this was my house, just more dark and dingy. It was then that I heard some crying.

It was coming from the dusty kitchen I had explored earlier. I looked in and saw the most horrific sight. It was me lying on the floor, dead with a knife in my back. Mum was weeping, but being careful not to step in the pool of blood that surrounded me. Dad was looking on, forlorn. I felt a hard tap on my shoulder. Suddenly I was back in the present, staring at my Dad.

It was a long drive home.”What happened  Dad? All I remember is touching the witch ball and then everything disappeared.”
“Well dear you touched the witch ball  and you fell to the floor, then we looked at your eyes and they were red like buttons”. At home I was very tired so I went to bed straight away.

I woke up at midnight hungry so I went downstairs to get something to eat. Suddenly I felt a sharp pain in my back and I knew at once that someone had stabbed me in the back
with a knife. I fell to the floor and closed my eyes and my last thought was that this is death...

12 years later

So there I was, minding my own business in heaven when the big guy asked me to come to his office. He said ”Kylie, have you ever wondered how you could see into the future?” I had thought about it but I didn’t really care.
 “Not  really.”
“Okay well, we found out that the witch ball was apparently a portkey to the future.” He told me calmly.
“What! Did you mean like in Harry Potter!” I said hardly able to contain myself.
“Why yes, you’re quite right.” That means,” I said taking a deep breath, '' “I must be related to Harry Potter!” I said my eyes shining! Then I had to do a bunch of DNA tests. They found

Escape Room!

W.A.L.T work as a team to solve problems. Today in STEM we did a challenge called the Escape Room. We had to solve riddle's to decipher the magic word so we could go free. The challenges were very hard. My goal for us is to calm down when under pressure because we got really worked up and didn't work well. it was challenging because everyone needed the cards so we needed to use patience. What went well was that we all enjoyed most of it. We came 3rd place, Olive came 1st. We worked well at solving the riddles. Do you like STEM?

Superhero pose

In inquiry we have been learning to control our emotions especially our anger (or when we flip our lids). we have three parts in our brain, the reptile bit who controls everything you do automatically, your emotional brain which controls your emotions, and your thinking brain which does all the thinking. they are always communicating with each other. When you flip your lid they lose connection. These are some tips to not flip your lid: take some deep breaths, do what you like doing, take a walk, do mindfulness. Say you need to do a pop quiz and you're really nervous and you flip your lid. Your three parts of your brain lose connection. What should you do? You take some deep breaths. You walk in confident so you put on your superhero pose. Your superhero pose is sorta like your brave face. This is mine. Bye!!!

Beautiful Baptism

In class we have been learning about baptism. Baptism is a time when you get welcomed into Gods family. Baptism is one of the seven sacraments. in a baptism you need water (blessed by a priest), charism oil (also blessed by a priest) and a white garment. You need to sign the cross ("I baptise you in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, Amen"). sometimes if it is an emergency you can baptise the person and all you need is water and say "I baptise you in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit Amen." Baptism is the first sacrament. What do you know about Baptism?

Church stuff.

Worshipping means praying to someone you admire a lot. You can worship God by singing or dancing or participating in a religious event. We made a google drawing about where you can pray and who you can do it with. For where two or three gather in my name, there I am with them,Matthew 18:20. This means that however many worship him he will always be with everyone.

 Where do you pray?

Fantastic Field Trip!

Yesterday we went on a field trip to the Canterbury Museum to see the Arctic Voices exhibit. The exhibit was about all the animals in the arctic and how they adapt to life in such a cold country. A museum educator gave us a worksheet where we had to pick an animal and write information about how they were able to survive in cold temperatures. I chose a polar bear. On the other side we had to create a new species and how they would adapt to living in the arctic. My animal was called a polar bird. It had fur all over it's body to keep it warm and to flippers to make it swim really fast,it also has wings to fly. Then we had lunch at the botanical gardens and for playtime we got to climb trees. After lunch we had to go around the museum and find hidden things. It was very hard. I want to learn more about global warming. Afterwards I felt very tired because we had a full day. What do you know about the Arctic?

Super spy pen!

W.A.L.T  Write an argument.
To write an argument you have to write a catchy title. For example my title was "Super spy pen".  Then you need to write your introduction and state three reasons.  Then you need to write your three reasons and give lots of examples.  Make sure you use detail.  Then you need to use a good strong conclusion.  For example "So this is why you should buy the spy pen".  Once we had done that we had to do a advertisement about our persuasive writing. Then we had to video ourselves doing it.My buddy was Olive. What do you know about persuasive arguments now?

Statistics.

W.A.L.T. Gather and present information.
Recently we have been doing statistics which means gathering information and then present it.There are lots of different types of ways to do statistics but we did three. They were called the bar graph, pictogram and a tally chart. First we had a subject to do a tally chart on.For example my one was what is Rm 4's favourite colour.I had to go around asking people what their favourite colour was. Then we would record it using tally marks.Next we had to draw it out in a bar graph. To draw one you have to draw the Y axis(the line going down) and the X axis(the line going across). Then you have to label the Y axis with "number of votes" and the X axis with "options".Then you have to write down numbers on the side. Then you have to draw bars up to the number of votes on the side. Then you need to write three statements. For example Blue had the most votes,Yellow had the least number of votes,Blue had three votes more than Purple. You can also do a pictogram. To draw one you have to draw a coulmn  and long lines straight across. Then you have to draw little pictures to represent how many votes you got.I enjoyed doing the bar graphs because it was really hard. What I found hard was coming up with a subject to do it on because you had to not make it very specific.Next time I would like to do fractions. What do you know about graphs?
