The Annunciation

WALT to retell the story of the Annunciation. There was once a woman in Galilee named Mary. She was very special as she was chosen to be the mother of the son of God. Here is how it happened. Mary was going to marry Joseph, son of David. One day Mary was praying when there was a voice. She said nervously “Who's there?” “Don't be afraid” said the voice “I am Gabriel the angel” the angel flapped his wings till he was level with Mary. “Mary, sweet and kind, you have been chosen by God to give birth to his Son. You will name him Jesus” Mary was shocked “Bu-but how can i have a baby. I am not even married yet.” “If it is God's will, it will happen.” Gabriel said. “If it is God's will then I will do it.” Then Gabriel disappeared in a flash of light. Mary ran to her dear relative Elizabeth to tell her the good news. “Elizabeth, the angel Gabriel told me I am going to have the Son of God” Elizabeth was shocked at first which then turned to joy. “You have been blessed Mary. Why don't you stay with me for a few months?” said Elizabeth. “I would like that,” said Mary. “But what will Joseph think about me having God's son?” said Mary. Elizabeth, choosing not to answer said “I will tell Joseph that you are staying with me while you get some rest.” While Mary was at Elizabeth's house Joseph found out that Mary was going to have a baby. “That is not possible. Mary is a fine woman. She would never do this. Is it even true. How can I marry her now?” Gabriel, seeing Joseph's confusion came down. “Joseph, do not worry Mary has been chosen by God to give birth to his Son.” he reassured Joseph. “I knew she wouldn't cheat on me”.

  1. You have done a great job of retelling the story Kate. I love all the detail you have put it. You have done a great job with all the punctuation as knowing when to put speech marks can be quite tricky. Did you enjoy reading this story?
